Dee Hsu, DJ Koo, family, visit Barbie Hsu’s grave on her birthday

Taiwanese host Dee Hsu and South Korean artist Koo Jun-yup, also known as DJ Koo, joined their family in remembering the late actress Barbie Hsu on what would have been her 50th birthday.

Dee took to social media to share photos from their recent family gathering at Barbie’s resting place, where they celebrated her sister.

“Today is our older sister’s 48th birthday. Of course, I came to celebrate her birthday. I brought her favorite champagne and cake, sat beside her, cried and laughed, shared our stories, and talked about how much we miss her,” Dee wrote.

She also reflected on how Barbie would remain 48 years old while she and their younger sister would continue to grow older.

The host then described the weather on Barbie’s birthday, finding a familiar connection between the actress and the sudden changes in the atmosphere.

“The wind and rain kept surging and then dying down; eventually, it got cold enough for all of us to freeze to death. That’s so like our sister,” she added.

She ended her message on a bittersweet note, writing, “Next year I will be older than her, and I will have a super superstar younger sister, big S ❤️❤️❤️.”

In the carousel of photos, Dee, DJ Koo, Barbie’s mother S Mom, and other family members could be seen wearing matching pink outfits as they gathered around Barbie’s grave, which was surrounded by pink flowers, a birthday cake, and champagne.

Barbie’s colleagues and fans also joined the family in remembering the actress, leaving birthday messages in Dee’s post.

“Wishing you all love on this special day 🤍 happy birthday beautiful,” South Korean singer and songwriter Yoon Mi-rae commented.

A fan then greeted, “Happy Birthday to the prettiest Shan Chai. I miss you. You’ll always be remembered and loved. 🕊️.”

Another netizen also wrote, “🫣I can’t believe Big S left us like this 😭 Little S (Dee), you have to take good care of yourself! Take good care of Mom S and brother-in-law too! Happy birthday to Big S 🎂 Being a fairy in heaven 🧚 ️ be happy too!”

Barbie, best known for her role as Shan Cai in the hit Taiwanese series Meteor Garden, passed away in February 2025 after contracting influenza that developed into pneumonia during a family trip to Japan.

In February 2026, DJ Koo and Barbie’s family unveiled a memorial statue at her resting place in New Taipei, Taiwan.

The ceremony was attended by several of Barbie’s colleagues and friends, including her Meteor Garden co-stars Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, and Rainie Yang; Corner with Love co-star Show Lo; Super Junior’s Choi Si-won; Taiwanese television producer Wang Wei-chung; and television hosts Kevin Tsai and Matilda Tao, among others.

According to reports, the statue, titled Barbie’s Eternal Orbit, was personally designed by DJ Koo and incorporates elements inspired by the late actress. During the ceremony, DJ Koo was also seen wearing a brown coat that Barbie had given him 27 years ago.

On Barbie’s first death anniversary, DJ Koo likewise shared a heartbreaking letter remembering his late wife.
