Aiko Melendez accepts Onemig Bondoc’s marriage proposal: ‘Siguro nga ikaw yata ang soulmate ko’
Eight months after they first went public with their relationship, Onemig Bondoc and Aiko Melendez are ready to take their relationship to the next level. In the October 6 vlog on Onemig’s YouTube channel, the former ‘90s matinee idol-turned-entrepreneur surprised Aiko by getting down on one knee during a visit to her late father Jimi Melendez’s grave, in culmination of their 29-years-in-the-making love story.
During the almost half-hour-long vlog, the couple can be seen talking in the car when they arrived at the cemetery, with Aiko sharing how she wished Onemig had been able to meet her father.
“Sayang hindi mo siya na-meet. Parang sabi nila female version daw ako ng papa ko. And alam ko na masaya ako kasi ma-mi-meet mo na siya, kahit na dito lang (sa grave niya). Although siyempre meron tayong mga pinagdaanan na little bumps na we really make an effort na ayusin agad, ‘di ba? Unlike yung mga pinagdaanan natin before na lagi tayong pinaghihiwalay ng tadhana, tapos pinagbabalik. Siguro nga ikaw yata ang soulmate ko,” Aiko shared in the vlog.
During the proposal, Aiko reacted in disbelief before starting to get emotional. “Oh my God. Seryoso ba yan? Dito talaga? Ikaw ang pinaka-unique na… YES! Sira ulo ka talaga! So ano ito, engaged na ako? I’m going to be soon Mrs. Bondoc. Guys, I’m officially engaged! Sa dami ng nag-aantay, tayo rin pala sa huli.”

After accepting the proposal, Onemig assured his fiancée that he had made sure to get the approval of all her loved ones before proposing to her on that day.
“Lahat kinausap ko na, simula sa mommy mo, sa kapatid mo, sa dalawa mong anak, nakausap ko na. Pinakahuli kong kinausap tatay mo, so kaya tayo nandito ngayon. Di ba sabi ko, ‘Hon, dalhin mo naman ako sa daddy mo.’ Kasi siyempre siya yung last. And since feeling ko naman, sabi mo nga, boto siya sa akin, so I decided to pop the question,” he told Aiko.
The former actor also made sure to give thanks again to Aiko’s father, whom he respectfully addressed after the proposal. “Daddy, from tito to daddy, thank you very, very much at dinala niyo yung aking love of my life dito sa mundong ito. Kung hindi po dahil sa inyo, hindi mabubuhay si Aiko. So thank you, thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart.”
In an earlier post, Aiko had already made it known that her rekindled relationship with Onemig is for keeps. She wrote, “My travel buddy, my best friend sometimes frenemy 🤣 but definitely the kind of love that i have waited for so long.”

In an interview with Boy Abunda last month, the couple clarified that both their previous marriages had already been annulled. Onemig’s marriage to model Valerie Bariou was annulled in 2021 while Aiko’s marriage to model turned chef Martin Jickain ended in 2010. Her first marriage to actor Jomari Yllana was also annulled in 2005.
