Filipino-British singer beabadoobee is coming to Manila: 5 things to know about the rising star

Filipino-British singer-songwriter beabadoobee is coming back to the Philippines, and this time she is going big.

The singer, born Beatrice Laus, will perform at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on April 13, 2027, as part of The Powerlines Tour. The concert follows the September release of Pylon, her fourth album and her most successful record so far.

Tickets go on sale next week. Here are five things worth knowing about Bea before the show.

She is a proud Ilongga

Bea was born in Iloilo City in 2000. When she was three, her parents moved the family to London, where she grew up. Distance did not cut her ties to home. As a child, she flew back every year and grew close to her cousins here.

In January 2023, she posted snapshots from Iloilo on Instagram, signing off with “Iloilo 4ever.” That same year, she released the music video for “Glue Song,” which she filmed in her hometown. Her lola and other relatives even make an appearance.

She is not fluent in Filipino, but she follows along just fine. “I can [speak]. Konti lang, but I can understand it fluently,” she said in an interview. She even used to be a regular viewer of Maalaala Mo Kaya.

She grew up on OPM

Long before she became a rock star in the UK, Bea was a kid hearing Pinoy music at home. Her mom and dad played OPM favorites like APO Hiking Society and Itchyworms. She has also cited Eraserheads, Rivermaya and Up Dharma Down as influences, along with ’80s pop and rock.

Her love for Itchyworms later came full circle when the band’s Jugs Jugueta gave her a vintage Martin guitar as a gift.

She went from a viral song to opening for Taylor Swift

Bea learned to play on a secondhand guitar from her father, picking up the basics from YouTube videos. The first song she wrote on it was “Coffee,” which she uploaded in 2017. The track caught the attention of indie label Dirty Hit, which later signed her.

If her voice sounds familiar, you may have heard it on TikTok. Canadian rapper Powfu built his song “Death Bed (Coffee for Your Head)” around a sample of “Coffee.” The song blew up in 2020 and reached No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her career has since taken off. In 2023, she was one of the opening acts on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. She has also toured with The 1975 and played major festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury. She has been nominated several times for the BRIT Awards and BBC Sound Of, and she won NME’s Radar award in 2020. Her songs have been streamed more than 10 billion times.

Pylon is her biggest album yet, and it has a touching story

Pylon came out on September 18 and went straight to the top of the UK Official Albums Chart. It is her second UK No. 1 in a row, after 2024’s This Is How Tomorrow Moves. It also became her first No. 1 album in Australia and her first top 10 on the US Billboard 200, landing at No. 7.

The title comes from the tall steel towers that hold up electric cables. On long tours abroad, Bea often felt lonely and far from home. Seeing these towers reminded her that she was still connected to the people she loved.

The album’s sound is heavier than her past work, leaning into grunge, emo and ’90s guitar rock. Paramore’s Hayley Williams sings with her on “Nothing to Prove,” and Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates appears on “Powerlines.” Deftones’ Chino Moreno also worked on the record, while Matty Healy and George Daniel of The 1975 helped produce “Write Me a Letter.”

Her Manila show is her biggest one here yet

Filipino fans have seen Bea live before. She first performed in Manila in September 2022 for her “Beatopia” tour, then came back for two nights in August 2025. Both shows were at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City.

Next year, she moves up to the much larger MOA Arena. The Powerlines Tour is her first-ever arena tour. It started in the US on October 1 and includes New York’s Madison Square Garden and London’s The O2. Her Australian shows are set for March 2027, about three weeks before the Manila date.
