Calvin Oftana admits regrets after Gilas’ failed Asiad title defense but proud to represent PH
Photo from Asian Games MANILA — Gilas Pilipinas’ Calvin Oftana admitted regrets after the Philippines failed to retain the Asian Games men’s 5-on-5 hoops title at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.Oftana said Wednesday during the resumption of the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup that he did what he could, but games didn’t go their way in the continental meet.
Still, he was proud to wear the national colors with Gilas Men.
“Sayang, pero ‘yon nga, ‘di naman araw-araw Pasko. May mga times talaga na gusto mong manalo pero hindi sumasang-ayon sa inyo,” said Oftana, who was one of the bright spots in the Gilas 5-on-5 squad.
“Ginawa ko lang naman ‘yung best ko dun. I’m just happy na ‘di man kami nakapasok sa next round, pero just proud na ni-represent namin ‘yung country with all our mind, kung ano’ng kaya naming gawin do’n,” he also said.
“I’m just proud na ni-represent namin nang maayos ‘yung bansa natin.”
Oftana returned to action for TNT in triumphant fashion, erupting for 31 points as the Tropang 5G drubbed Terrafirma, 116-92, Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
