Sue Ramirez dedicates ‘The Effect’ to late mom: ‘I carried you with me through every rehearsal, performance’

As the curtain closes on the play The Effect, Kapamilya actress Sue Ramirez looked back on her journey as Connie Hall and shared how the production helped her navigate one of the most difficult chapters of her life.

In an social media post, Sue admitted that she initially hesitated to continue with the play as she was still grieving the passing of her mother, Chit.

“This show came into my life at a time when simply showing up for anything felt incredibly difficult. To be completely honest, I almost didn’t do this show. I was struggling with so much self-doubt, questioning whether I was deserving or even good enough for the role,” the actress wrote.

Sue revealed that rehearsals for the production began the day after her mother passed away, making it even more difficult for her to step into the role.

“On top of that, rehearsals began the day after my mom passed away. The team had to start without me, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was already falling behind before I had even begun. I became hesitant and unsure if I could see it through,” she added.

Despite her doubts and grief, Sue decided to continue with the production. “But somewhere in me, there was still a part that really wanted to do this. So I held on. I showed up, even on the days when it was hard, even when I didn’t feel like myself, and even when I wasn’t sure I could do it.”

Recalling the moment, Sue realized that The Effect gave her more than an opportunity to perform on stage. The production became a source of comfort and motivation as she dealt with her loss.

“Looking back, I think this show gave me so much more than just the opportunity to play Connie. It gave me something to look forward to, a reason to get out of bed, a space to rediscover myself, and people to hold on to during one of the hardest chapters of my life,” she said.

Sue also expressed her gratitude to the people behind CAST PH for trusting her with the role of Connie and supporting her throughout the production.

“So grateful to everyone at @cast_ph for giving me the opportunity to bring Connie Hall to life. Thank you for your trust, support, patience, and understanding throughout this journey. We first did a reading of this play in January of 2025, and it was such a beautiful experience to finally see it all come to life on stage at @areteateneo . 🎭✨,” she said.

Sue also wrote, “To our director, @sarah.facuri , thank you for your patience, kindness, and guidance. For believing in me, especially on the days I struggled to believe in myself. To @sybrianito @cathyazanzady @deandanielrosen @chayemoggie , thank you for making me feel supported and for inspiring me, you were my motivation through all of this.”

Sue ended her message with a heartfelt dedication to her late mother, recalling how much Chit loved watching her perform on stage.

“And to my mom, I know how much you loved watching me on stage. I hope I made you proud. I carried you with me through every rehearsal, and every performance. All for you, Mi. I know you were there. 🤍,” she said. “Until our next experiment. 👫🏻🥐💕”

Sue was announced as part of CAST PH’s fully staged production of The Effect last August. She starred opposite Brian Sy as Tristan Frey, with Dean Daniel Rosen as Dr. Toby Sealey and Cathy Azanza-Dy as Dr. Lorna James. Chaye Mogg served as the understudy for Connie.

Written by Lucy Prebble, the play follows Connie and Tristan, two volunteers who join a clinical trial for a new antidepressant. As their relationship develops, the story explores whether feelings can be considered real when they may be affected by medication.

The Effect also tackles depression and the debate surrounding whether mental illness can be understood and treated purely through chemistry.

Sue announced the passing of her mom, Chit Dodd in the same month. Earlier this year, the actress revealed that her mother suffered a stroke in November 2025, which affected her ability to speak and walk.

Sue also turned to social media to appeal for blood donations as her mother prepared to undergo open-heart surgery, while asking the public to continue praying for her recovery.
