BIR warns taxpayers vs fake ORUS website

MANILA — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) issued an urgent warning on Friday, October 9, cautioning taxpayers against a fraudulent website impersonating its Online Registration and Update System (ORUS).

The tax collection agency flagged the domain orus.ph, which closely imitates the look and feel of the official government portal. The BIR warned that accessing or interacting with the deceptive site exposes users to suspicious pop-up windows, unfamiliar permission prompts, and serious privacy and cybersecurity risks, including potential data theft.

Taxpayers are strongly advised not to visit the unauthorized site, input personal or tax-related information, or grant any device permissions requested by the portal.

To ensure safe and legitimate transactions, the bureau reminded the public that the official ORUS platform is accessible strictly through https://orus.bir.gov.ph/. Taxpayers should always verify web addresses before sharing sensitive credentials online, the BIR said.

The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant against online scams cloning government platforms. It said that individuals who encounter suspicious links, unexpected pop-ups, or websites claiming association with the bureau are advised to document and immediately report these incidents to the BIR for investigation.
