Prosecutor explains why they dropped bribery article in VP impeach trial
The Senate impeachment court on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, examines the testimony of National Bureau of Investigation-BARMM Regional Director Jeremy Lontoc as defense lawyers and senator-judges probe the legal and factual interpretation of “grave threats” and “inciting to sedition” under Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte. Wendell D. Alinea, Senate Social Media Unit/FileMANILA — House prosecutor Jonathan Keith Flores on Friday said they already filed a manifestation to drop the bribery article in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
According to Flores, there is no need for approval from the impeachment court—only that they be informed that the prosecution will no longer present evidence on this article.
For Flores, they presented enough on three articles, and “to drag it further” could be “stretching the patience not only of the people but also of the senator-judges too long.”
