Denise Julia defends Filipino talent amid Grammy buzz: ‘Filipino talent has always deserved a bigger stage’

Denise Julia has come to the defense of Filipinos, reminding critics that the Philippines has never lacked talent and that local performers deserve more opportunities to showcase their skills on the world stage.

In a post on X on October 9, the singer-songwriter addressed a netizen questioning the eligibility of Filipinos to submit an entry or win a Grammy award.

“Please do not ever question Filipinos and their talent because you could find a kid on any random street in the Philippines who could outsing, outdance, and outperform even without access to proper training or resources,” Denise wrote.

She further emphasized that recognizing Filipino talent should not be about measuring local artists against those from other countries or seeking approval from the international music industry. For Denise, the focus should be on acknowledging the talent already present in the country and providing artists with opportunities to develop and reach wider audiences.

“We’ve never been short of talent, and this isn’t about competing with other countries or seeking their validation. It’s about recognizing the wealth of talent we’ve always had and creating more opportunities for it to thrive.”

“Filipino talent has always deserved a bigger stage, and that recognition is long overdue,” she maintained.

Her statement came as music fans discussed the possibility of Filipino artists like BINI making it to the 2027 Grammy Awards, particularly in the newly introduced Best Asian Pop Music Performance category.

BINI has been among the acts mentioned in online conversations about potential contenders, with fans also expressing hopes that the Nation’s Girl Group could receive a nomination or even a win.

The discussion took a serious turn after a netizen questioned BINI’s qualification, saying that they had not won awards on South Korean music chart shows. The remark drew criticism from Filipino users, who pointed out that BINI is a Filipino P-pop group and that awards from music programs are not a measure of an artist’s talent or international potential.

Denise’s message resonated with netizens who thanked her for speaking up for Filipino performers and championing the country’s music scene.

“🥹🫶🏻✨🤍 Thank you, Miss Denise Julia, for defending Filipino and Filipino talents! Long live the voice of every Filipino and long live Filipino music! 🤍,” one commenter wrote.

“And there it goes, this reaches the filipino artists. ily for this queen!!!” another added.

“Girl, preach! 👏,” one more commented.

BINI also received an outpouring of support from fans, who pointed to the group’s accomplishments and the pride they have brought to the Philippines.

Others echoed Denise’s sentiment that an artist’s ability cannot be measured by a single award or recognition from a particular country.

As of this writing, the Recording Academy has yet to announce the official nominees for the 2027 ceremony. There has also been no confirmed announcement yet that a Filipino act secured a nomination.

The official nominees for the 2027 Grammy Awards are scheduled to be announced on November 16.
