Senatorial candidates told: Take down product endorsements

By Leslie Ann Aquino

Even the product endorsements of senatorial candidates running in the May 13 midterm polls must also be taken down since the campaign period for national candidates has already started, according to an official of the Commission on Elections.

“Once he becomes a candidate on Feb. 12. All of those should have been taken down,” Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said in an interview Wednesday.

“Their contractors know they are going to be entering a campaign period. That is not our concern how they will fulfill or break their contracts,” she added.

“You cannot have a contract that is contrary to law, policy, or good custom,” said Guanzon.

She said the Comelec is simply enforcing the campaign rules.

“We have to enforce these campaign rules because people are criticizing the Comelec for lacking the will or the teeth to enforce our rules,” said Guanzon.

To note, the campaign period for national candidates such as senator and partylist started February 12 and will end on May 11.

The Comelec already started documenting the illegal campaign materials of candidates last week.
