EXCLUSIVE: Benedix Ramos reveals why he doesn’t listen to music often despite being a singer

Despite being a singer and an active musical theater performer, Benedix Ramos revealed that he rarely listens to music because of how strongly songs affect his emotions.

The actor and performer revealed in an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN that he does not actually listen to music that often, explaining that songs can have such a powerful effect on his emotions that he cannot simply play them anytime.

“Honestly, ako, feeling ko first time ko lang sasabihin ito. I don’t really listen to music that much,” Benedix admitted.

He explained that the emotions behind a song can easily affect the way he feels, whether it is sadness, happiness, or love.

“Because it always triggers me. Kahit anong song, kapag naramdaman ko—if it’s a sad song, I’ll be sad. If it’s a happy song, I’ll be happy. If it’s a song about love, I’ll be so in love,” he shared.

For Benedix, this emotional connection is precisely what makes music so powerful. He said that listening to a particular song is often something intentional for him, especially when he is going through something or wants to feel a certain emotion.

“It’s that powerful that I cannot just listen to it anytime. Kasi it means that if I want to listen to a song, to a certain song, it means that I’m feeling something or I’m going through something or I want to feel something,” he said.

Instead, Benedix revealed that he prefers listening to instrumentals, as lyrics can affect him even more.

“I’d rather listen to instrumentals than the words. Kasi pag narinig ko na yung words from writers of the song or the lyrics, sobrang mato-touch ako kaagad,” he explained.

The revelation comes as Benedix continues to build his career as both a singer and a theater actor.

In the same exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, Benedix shared that theater has become much more than just another project for him, describing it as an important part of his career that has given him stability and opened more opportunities in the entertainment industry.

The actor said he takes every theater project seriously, emphasizing that performing onstage requires a different discipline from film and television.

But while Benedix may be selective about the music he listens to in his personal life, performing and telling stories through theater is an experience he approaches differently. For the actor, the stage has become an important part of his journey in the entertainment industry—one that has helped shape his career and brought him opportunities he said he owes much of his success to.

That connection to theater continued with The Notebook: The Musical, where Benedix took on the role of Young Noah opposite Sheena Belarmino as Young Allie.

The story also holds a personal meaning for Benedix. As someone who considers himself both a lolo’s boy and a lola’s boy, he said the musical’s portrayal of love that endures through the years resonates deeply with him.

“It’s a love story, but honestly, to me, it’s not just a love story. As a lolo’s boy and lola’s boy, sobrang malapit sa puso ko ang mga ganitong story na it talks about the kind of love na hanggang pagtanda ay kasama mo ang mahal mo,” Ramos said during the Star Magic Spotlight Presscon.

For Benedix, his grandparents and other couples from their generation serve as a reminder that lasting love can exist beyond the stories seen onstage.

“Kung hindi ka naniniwala na true love exists, tanungin mo ang lolo at lola mo kung bakit sila hanggang ngayon ay nandito pa rin, niyayakap ang isa’t isa at minamahal ang mga apo nila,” he said.

Benedix was part of the Philippine staging of The Notebook: The Musical, directed by Filipino-American theater director Nicholas Polonio. The musical follows the love story of Noah and Allie across different stages of their lives, with Benedix and Sheena portraying the younger versions of the central couple.

Morissette and Laurence Mossman played Middle Allie and Middle Noah, respectively, while Celeste Legaspi and Rody Vera portray Older Allie and Older Noah. Also in the production were Carla Guevara Laforteza, Floyd Tena, Shaun Ocrisma, Jillian Itaas, Felicity Kyle Napuli, Markki Stroem, Kathleen Francisco, and Omar Uddin.
