Anne Hathaway asks fans not to ‘overpraise’ her for working while pregnant

Anne Hathaway may be earning admiration for promoting five films while pregnant, but the actress believes other women deserve just as much recognition for showing up and doing their jobs.

The actress playfully asked fans not to make too big a deal out of her busy schedule, pointing out that she is fortunate to have plenty of help as she continues working while expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman.

“Please, let’s not overpraise the pampered actress,” Anne said in an interview with AP Entertainment while promoting Verity alongside co-stars Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.

She reminded people that many pregnant women continue to work and manage their daily responsibilities without the same level of assistance or pampering she receives in Hollywood.

“There’s a lot of pregnant women out there, at home and in the workplace, who, you know, didn’t get a manicure this morning,” she candidly said.

The actress was not dismissing the support she has received from fans. Rather, she acknowledged that her circumstances allow her to keep working with help from the people around her, while many other women also put in the work without receiving the same attention.

Anne said she remains happy to be working and grateful for the people who have helped make her demanding schedule manageable.

“I’m very happy to do my job. I have so much support,” she shared.

Her Verity co-star Josh also weighed in on her seemingly endless run of projects, joking that Hollywood was becoming “overly reliant” on the actress. He even encouraged her to take some well-deserved maternity leave after the film’s release.

“Don’t worry, I’m going to rest pretty soon,” Anne laughed in response.

A break is indeed part of her plan. Anne previously said in an interview that she would “vanish into a plume of smoke” and step away from public appearances after finishing her busy year to prepare for the arrival of her third child.

She appeared to follow through on that promise with a playful Instagram video earlier this October, in which she literally vanished into smoke as she temporarily said goodbye to her fans.

Before taking that break, the actress has been busy promoting a lineup of five films this year including Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2, The Odyssey, The End of Oak Street, and Verity.

In an earlier interview with Vogue, Anne admitted that balancing the projects while pregnant has been a lot to handle.

“Five is a lot, but I haven’t lost track because I’ve had so much help,” she said. “Everything has not been effortless with all the back-to-back press and red carpets. There’s been an army of people behind me at every step, and I’m just really lucky. This year has all been really amazing. For most actors, we are lucky to get one film a year, but to have a year that’s been ridiculously overly-blessed, I’m appreciating every second of it.”

Anne is expected to reunite with Tom Cruise for a much-anticipated Days of Thunder sequel, which is set to begin filming in March 2027.
