MANILA — Senators on Wednesday pressed the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to already release the pending training allowance of athletes.

Senator Bong Go, chairperson of the Subcommittee on Finance which tackled the proposed 2027 budget of the PSC on Wednesday, said that there is a complaint from the Philippine women’s volleyball team alleging that it has not received two months’ worth of training allowance.

PSC chairman Patrick Gregorio said the problem might stem from issues with the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF), which has changed presidents three times since 2025.

“It is unacceptable naman po na during training nila may two months delay. Yung iba sinasabi January pa raw hindi nila natatanggap yung allowances. Ibig sabihin pupunta sila ng Asian games sa Aichi-Nagoya tapos meron nga silang baon pero nung nag-training naman sila apektado yung morale nila,” said Go.

Jeorge Roman Lozano, Supervising Auditor of the Commission on Audit (COA), said the PNVF has an outstanding unliquidated amount of P270 million.

Gregorio is hopeful that new PNVF President Frank Lao can resolve the matter.

The Alas Pilipinas men’s volleyball team made headlines in the Asian Games after team captain Bryan Bagunas revealed financial woes among the members, revealing that some players had to borrow money just to attend training sessions.

Gregorio also said they are already addressing the pending incentives of jiu jitsu athletes who won in the World Championship in August.

“Kami po ay makakapagtrabaho nang mabilis kung yung counterpart NSA po namin ay mabilis,” he said.
