QC public order unit vets former Task Force Disiplina staff for integration

MANILA — Around 300 personnel from Quezon City’s defunct Task Force Disiplina, a unit that used to be under the Office of the Mayor, are undergoing evaluation for possible integration into the city’s Department of Public Order and Safety.

Retired police general Elmo San Diego, DPOS head, said the department will absorb the 300 but that there is a vetting procedure for that.

The vetting includes securing police and National Bureau of Investigation clearances, a drug test, and a neuropsychiatric examination.

Teresa Llanto, former administrative officer of Task Force Disiplina the city is assisting personnel with the expenses of completing the requirements.

Meanwhile, Arnold Tamayo, a former liaison officer of Task Force Disiplina, expressed slight frustration over having to be vetted again.

“Kailangan talaga mag-submit para makita din yung mga tao kung kwalipikado sa trabaho nila,” he acknowledged.

(We really have to submit the requirements to see if the person is qualified for the job.)

San Diego maintained his firm stance against issuing firearms or even batons to personnel.

“Chances are pag naggalit ka, mambabatuta ka eh. Tinanggal na rin namin yun,” he said.

(Chances are, if you are angry, you might use the baton. So we took that away as well.)

The abolition of the task force follows Monday’s incident where a drunk member of the task force shot and killed three teenagers in Barangay Batasan Hills over curfew violations.
