From Vancouver to Manila: Daren Dyhengco gears up for second PH concert
In the bustling world of entertainment, overnight sensations are rare; true breakthroughs are built on years of quiet dedication, rigorous training, and an unwavering passion for the craft.
Enter Daren Dyhengco, a Vancouver-based, Filipino-Chinese actor and singer who is carving out a space for himself in the Philippine entertainment scene. With a resume that includes screen credits in “A Million Little Things” (2018), “Inward Edward” (2017), and the upcoming “Silent Battles,” Dyhengco is more than a fresh face — he is a seasoned, triple-threat performer ready to take the local industry by storm.
Born in San Juan City and shaped by his early years at Xavier School, Dyhengco’s artistic foundation was laid across two continents. When his family migrated to Canada when he was 16, he found his voice at the Burnett School, diving headfirst into school musicals, plays, and even founding a high school glee club where he served as vocal coach. This early momentum propelled him to international stages, notably placing third at the prestigious iPop competition in Los Angeles in 2011.

Rather than relying on raw talent alone, Dyhengco committed himself to mastery. He is a proud graduate of Capilano University’s rigorous Musical Theater Program in North Vancouver and has trained extensively under renowned vocal coaches like Don Wolf, alongside mentorship from pop sensation Elise Estrada. This pursuit of excellence is deeply rooted in his personal history— inspired by a grandmother who once dreamed of singing and a mother who introduced him to the magic of musicals.
Now, Dyhengco is bringing this wealth of international training back to his roots. Following his discovery at a Manila charity show and a milestone performance at the Music Museum in 2019, he is more than prepared for a second gig — “Music and Dreams,” slated on the same venue on October 30. To support him are special guests Ma-anne Dionisio and Roselle Nava.
Known for his stage presence — seamlessly blending contemporary pop sensibilities inspired by artists like Shawn Mendes and Sam Smith with high-energy dance numbers — Dyhengco is building his Philippine presence from the stage up.
With singles in the pipeline and a growing portfolio of international acting credits, Dyhengco represents a new breed of cross-cultural talent: globally trained, deeply grounded, and undeniably ready. As he continues to captivate audiences on both stage and screen, the Philippine entertainment scene is witnessing the steady, purposeful rise of an artist who is built for the long haul.
With a career bridging the worlds of stage, television, and film, Dyhengco feels prepared for Philippine audiences. After all, he has also consistently channeled his passion for storytelling into memorable performances, notably starring in two original Canadian-Filipino musicals, “Prison Dancer” and “Mabuhay: A New Musical.” These productions allowed him to celebrate rich Filipino stories, culture, and the diaspora experience through powerful music and theater.
For Dyhengco, a return to the Philippine stage represents a significant milestone in his career — a chance to reconnect with his heritage, share his profound love for musical theater with audiences back home, and honor the roots that shape his artistry. Guided by a steadfast belief in the right timing, he chooses not to measure his journey against the accomplishments of others. Instead, he views himself as an eternal work in progress, always open to learning, refining his craft, and growing as an artist. Heavily inspired by the classic ballad style, among them, OPM icon Martin Nievera, Dyhengco approaches his music with the heart of a balladeer.
Above all, his enduring love for theater lies in the magic of how a song translates directly into the soul of a story, allowing him to create meaningful moments and inspire others wherever his artistic journey takes him.
