Josiela Lagrimas cites decisive leadership in winning answer at Mutya ng Pilipinas 2026
MANILA — Newly crowned Miss Intercontinental Philippines 2026 Josiela Lagrimas of Laoang, Northern Samar underscored the importance of decisive leadership in addressing natural disasters, delivering an answer that helped seal her victory at the 58th Mutya ng Pilipinas Grand Coronation Night.
During the pageant’s question-and-answer portion, Lagrimas was asked:
“In a country frequently affected by natural disasters, what do you believe is the most important quality of a Filipino leader to address these issues?”
In her response, Lagrimas emphasized the need for leaders who can anticipate problems and prepare solutions even before calamities strike.
“In a country that has always been affected by natural disasters, I believe the Filipino leader should be someone who is decisive. Decisive in a sense that even before calamities exist, he or she should have solutions to it,” she said.
The beauty queen went on to make a broader appeal to voters, highlighting the role of leadership in national development.
“I am calling everyone, since the elections are coming up, to choose the right leaders, right decisive leaders, for our country to prosper,” she added.
Lagrimas’ answer resonated with the realities faced by the Philippines, one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries due to its exposure to typhoons, floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and other natural hazards.
Her remarks focused on preparedness and proactive governance, stressing that effective leadership involves planning ahead rather than merely reacting to emergencies.
The delegate from Northern Samar ultimately earned the Miss Intercontinental Philippines 2026 title, joining the roster of queens who will represent the country on the international stage.
Her winning response also reflected a recurring theme in pageantry: using the platform to address national concerns and advocate for qualities that can help communities overcome pressing challenges. For Lagrimas, that quality is clear.
“Decisive” leadership, she said, is key to helping the country weather disasters and achieve progress.
