MANILA—For Aristotle Gamo, being first in line for the latest iPhone was more than just getting his hands on a new gadget. It was also a way to make his wife’s birthday extra special.

Gamo, the first customer in line at the Power Mac Center in a Makati mall’s midnight launch of the iPhone 18 Pro series, bought the latest Apple device as a gift for his wife, Cheska, who celebrated her birthday this October.

He said he had been waiting for the launch since last week and began lining up on Monday, October 12, to secure the new iPhone.

But this was not Gamo’s first time camping out for an iPhone launch.

He said he has been lining up for a new iPhone every two years. During his previous campout, he was fifth in line.

Gamo said he usually takes over Cheska’s old iPhone whenever she gets a new one.

“’Yung luma, kinukuha ko na lang,” he said.

Gamo said he and Cheska have been together for 15 years. He also had a birthday message for his wife.

“Happy Birthday, babe! This one is for you,” he said.

Aside from the iPhone, Gamo also took home several freebies, including a brand-new television.

He also got to meet “It’s Showtime” host Vice Ganda, who accompanied him to the counter to claim his burgundy iPhone 18 Pro.

The midnight launch event for the iPhone 18 Pro series at Power Mac Center also featured performances by singers Janine Teñoso and Dionela. The event was hosted by former MYX VJ Ai dela Cruz and content creator Kuya Show.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max during its “Surprise and Shine” event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, on September 9.

In the Philippines, prices for the iPhone 18 Pro start at P94,990, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at P99,990.

Apple is lining up another launch for its much-anticipated foldable iPhone Duo, but the company is mum about the exact details on when the device will land in the country.
