Mutya ng Pilipinas 2026 delegate apologizes for using live butterflies in terno presentation

Mutya ng Pilipinas 2026 candidate Fionna Lisama, who represented General Trias City, has apologized for using live butterflies during her terno gown presentation at the pageant’s charity gala, following criticism from netizens over the treatment of the insects.

A video of Lisama’s performance circulated online, showing the candidate opening a shawl to release several large butterflies that flew around the stage.

Some of the insects remained attached to the fabric as she continued dancing, prompting concerns among viewers about their welfare.

In a statement on Friday, October 16, Lisama acknowledged that her decision was wrong and accepted responsibility for the incident.

“I acknowledge that it was a mistake and a poor decision, and I take full accountability for what happened. No intention can justify my actions, and I am truly sorry,” she said.

Lisama added that although the events unfolded quickly, she recognized that she should have been more mindful of the welfare of the living creatures.

“I am not here to make excuses or justify my actions. I understand that I have disappointed and hurt people, and I sincerely apologize for that,” she said.

The beauty queen acknowledged that an apology alone could not reverse what had happened but vowed to exercise greater care in her future decisions.

“I will take this as a learning experience and be more thoughtful and responsible in the decisions I make moving forward,” she said, adding that personal growth requires accountability and a willingness to do better.

The Mutya ng Pilipinas 2026 Charity Gala was held at Fairmont Makati on Sunday, October 11, under the theme “A Tribute to the Terno.” Delegates showcased various interpretations of the traditional Filipino formal garment.
