Regine Velasquez receives standing ovations on opening night of sold-out ‘Finale’ concert
Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid received multiple standing ovations on the opening night of her three-night sold-out concert, which kicked off on Saturday, October 17.
Among the performances that earned standing ovations were her renditions of “Narito Ako,” “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” and “What Kind of Fool Am I?”.
One of the night’s highlights was the appearance of Mikee Cojuangco and Donna Cruz, who joined Velasquez for a nostalgic performance of “I Can,” the theme song of their 1996 musical comedy film “Do Re Mi.”
The concert also featured the much-loved duet “Hanggang Ngayon” by Velasquez and her husband, Ogie Alcasid.
Beyond the appearances of well-known stars, the show highlighted the talents of DNA, a P-pop girl group, and a newly formed band composed of the Songbird’s nieces and nephews, along with her son, Nate.
Velasquez closed the first night with a spectacular entrance aboard a mechanical golden bird float for a segment called “Regine-oke.”
She circled the Mall of Asia Arena while performing a medley of songs, including “Crazy for You,” “Dancing Queen,” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.”
Fans can look forward to more special guests and memorable performances on the second and third nights of the concert.
Titled “Finale,” the three-night sold-out concert celebrates Velasquez’s 40th anniversary in the music industry.
