EXCLUSIVE: Dylan Yturralde opens up about music journey, wants to explore songwriting

From being a varsity athlete to becoming a Pinoy Big Brother housemate and actor, Dylan Yturralde has added another milestone to his career with the release of his self-titled debut EP.

In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN, Dylan shared that his love for music started long before he agreed to pursue his own album, recalling how he was encouraged by Star Music executives to explore his singing abilities.

“Two years ago, parang lagi na akong nakikita kasi sa music events. Mahilig talaga ako sa music. Mahilig ako makinig sa music. Makaraoke ako. So, pag nakikita ako nila Sir Rox (Santos), lalo na si Sir Roxy (Liquigan), tinatanong niya ako, ‘Ikaw? Kumakanta ka ba? Kanta ka na!’ Lagi niya akong kina-convince,” he recalled.

Dylan eventually became more open to the idea during last year’s ABS-CBN Ball, where he said the ABS-CBN music label executives helped convince him to take the opportunity seriously.

“Siguro yung Ball last year, ABS-CBN Ball, parang doon kami nag-usap and doon niya na-convince na seryoso na ‘to. Kaya (ko na). Kasi yung the way ko daw, paano sabihin na, game. Kasi ayoko gawin yung isang bagay na hindi ako ready. Pero dahil nga sabi ko na we will never be ready. Kailangan mo lang din talaga ng proper preparation,” Dylan added.

As he ventured into a new field, Dylan made it clear that he was willing to learn and wanted guidance from the people helping him navigate the music industry.

“Ayon lang yung hinihingi ko sa kanila na please guide me kasi I’m new to this and I don’t want to waste your time. I don’t want to waste the opportunity. So, let’s make the most out of it, sabi ko sa kanila. And, sobrang blessed naman kasi tinulungan nila all throughout the journey,” Dylan said.

Dylan also admitted that he initially felt nervous about pursuing music, especially since becoming a singer was not part of his original plans. Drawing from his experience as an athlete, he explained that preparation has always been important to him.

“Takot akong hangga’t hindi ko siya na workshop or naaaral. Ayoko gawin yung isang bagay kasi ganoon ako as an athlete. Kailangan mo mag-prepare, mag-training before going into competition. So, the moment na kakanta na ako, sabi ko kailangan ko ng preparation. So, blessed pa rin talaga ako kasi binigyan talaga ako ng opportunity and nagtiwala sila sa akin. Wala siya sa plano ko pero dahil nandito na siya ngayon, kakaririn ko na siya,” he said.

Dylan’s self-titled debut EP features five songs that explore the different sides of love, including its beauty and messiness. Through the project, he hopes to show listeners his romantic side and give them songs they can relate to when longing for love.

“Gusto kong maramdaman nila yung pagiging romantic ko. Gusto kong maramdaman nila yung pagmamahal. Kunwari nagye-yearn sila for love, they can just listen to the EP,” Dylan said.

Beyond singing, Dylan also hopes to explore songwriting, revealing that he has always enjoyed writing stories even before entering the music scene.

“Yes, kasi parang ang saya pala na masulat yung (songs). Actually, nagsusulat ako hindi lang in a song way but nagsusulat talaga ako ng stories ganyan, mas doon ako familiar kasi more on acting ako the past few years. So, gusto ko siya magawa para mas personal to me,” he told PUSH ABS-CBN.

Despite being at the beginning of his music journey, Dylan expressed gratitude for the opportunity to pursue something new and for the people who believed in his potential.

“It’s a blessing kasi hindi lahat na gusto maging singer ay nabibigyan ng opportunity na maging singer. I’m fortunate enough na pinagkatiwalaan nila ako and they see something in me na kaya kong gawin,” he said.

“Nagsisimula pa lang ako eh. So, feeling ko I have a lot to learn pa. And excited ako sa mga susunod pang mangyayari,” he continued.
