PNP-CIDG subpoenas over 20 individuals in Laos shabu shipment probe
MANILA — The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has subpoenaed more than 20 individuals as part of its investigation into a shipment of shabu intercepted in Laos that was allegedly bound for the Philippines.
PNP Public Information Office chief PCol. Allen Rae Co said the CIDG has issued subpoenas to at least 21 individuals, with more expected to be called as investigators gather statements and evidence.
“For them to be able to air their side and for them to exercise their right to be heard,” Co said.
“We would like to call doon pa sa iba if you were issued a subpoena, please cooperate and appear at the CIDG,” he added.
Co clarified that being subpoenaed does not necessarily mean the individuals were directly involved in the alleged drug smuggling operation.
He also said the investigation is nearing completion, but declined to disclose the profiles of the individuals being investigated, including those whose names allegedly appeared in a diagram presented in connection with the case.
“We do not deal in rumors, we do not deal in gossips. We only deal based on evidence and documents kaya nasabi ng ating DILG Secretary that we are very much confident,” Co stressed.
Meanwhile, Co also confirmed that a female police officer allegedly linked to the case has been relieved from her post and placed under restrictive custody at the Administrative Holding Section of the Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP).
He said the PNP chief immediately ordered the officer’s relief to prevent any possible interference with the investigation and to ensure she could no longer perform her duties if the allegations against her prove true.
