DPWH reopens EDSA Caloocan, North EDSA southbound lane following weekend reblocking

MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Monday that the re-blocking along EDSA Southbound lane from Caloocan City to North EDSA has been completed as scheduled.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon told reporters on Monday that the road repair along EDSA is part of the phase 2 of the EDSA rehabilitation project.

“Kailangan lang talagang gawin yun (EDSA reblocking) kasi kung makikita ‘nyo yung estado noon bago natin ayusin ay talagang sira-sira na, bitak-bitak na, kailangan na ireblock,” Dizon said.

DPWH-National Capital Region started the reblocking works last Friday night, and finished it early morning on Monday.
“Yung reblocking natin sa EDSA Southbound mula Caloocan papuntang North Edsa natapos na rin –
isa pa yun mabilis nagawa, nagsimula tayo Friday night ngayon as of 5am today nadaanan na sya. Ngayon, normal operation na tayo ngayong Monday as of 5 a.m.,” Dizon said.

In a message to ABS-CBN News, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni “Banoy” Lopez said, the concrete barriers that separates EDSA Bus Carousel and private vehicles was moved to the second innermost lane as requested by DPWH-NCR.

“The barriers for the EDSA Busway were moved to the 2nd innermost lane as requested by the DPWH-NCR as they continue to implement their EDSA rehabilitation. The said area will be subjected to concrete reblocking and asphalt overlay,” Banoy said.

But as of this writing, the concrete barriers remain positioned at the 2nd innermost lane of EDSA Southbound from Balintawak to Muñoz area, causing confusion to motorists as to which lanes are exclusive to buses.

Lopez said he will still have to double-check with the Public Works Department if and when the barriers will be moved.
