Tennis: Alex Eala eyes bounce-back campaign in Ningbo Open

Filipina tennis star Alex Eala in action in the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. POC Media.MANILA — Alex Eala looks to snap her recent slump as she faces Frenchwoman Diane Parry in the opening round of the Ningbo Open in China on Monday.

The Filipina tennis star is set to take on the world No. 32, with a spot in the Round of 16 at stake in the WTA 500 tournament.

Eala seeks to regain her form after a string of early exits following her third-round finish at the US Open in September.

The 21-year-old most recently bowed out in the opening round of the Wuhan Open last week after losing to Chinese qualifier Han Shi.

Prior to that, she fell to China’s Wang Xiyu in the semifinals of the 2026 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, after absorbing a first-round defeat to Tatiana Prozorova at the Singapore Open.

Eala has since slipped two places to world No. 20 in the WTA rankings and now looks to get back on track against Parry in their first-ever meeting.
