Spikers’ Turf: RK Medino eager to seize the moment with NU

MANILA — RK Medino hopes to make the most of his opportunity with National University (NU) as he takes another step toward his volleyball dreams.

Hailing from Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, Medino has a chance to elevate his career with the Bulldogs.

And for the young talent, he will take it step by step to achieve his ultimate dream of playing for the national team.

“Dreams sa pagiging volleyball player, siyempre maabot ko ‘yung mataas na paglalaro, makapasok sa national team. Bilang bata, ginagalingan lang, inaayos lang sa training, step by step, gano’n,” he said after scoring 15 points in NU-Archipelago Builders’ 25-14, 25-13, 20-25, 25-12 victory over VNS in the 2026 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference on Tuesday.

Before joining NU, Medino played for VNS-Always Bright, a team he credited for helping develop his skills and prepare him for his current opportunity with the Bulldogs.

“Sobrang grateful ako dahil sa kanila (VNS), siyempre sila nag-training sa akin nung nandito ako and nagbigay sa ‘kin ng galing tsaka talino,” he said.

“Siyempre ‘yung pag-aalaga din nila, sobrang grateful ako and bago ako umalis siyempre nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila,” he added.

Now beginning a new chapter with the powerhouse NU squad, Medino hopes to continue improving as he adjusts to the demands of collegiate volleyball.

“Ngayon, pag-akyat ko po sa NU, nakuha nila ako, mas binigyan pa nila ako ng galing, mas nag-level up pa ‘yung galing ko dahil sa college na sistema,” he said.

His return to the country’s premier men’s volleyball league has also given him another opportunity to gain valuable experience, including facing his former team.

“Unang una ‘yung makapasok dito sa, siyempre, naglaro muna kami against sa collegiate team bago makapasok dito sa Spikers’ Turf, kaya sobrang saya na makapaglaro ulit dito sa Spikers’ Turf tulad ng dati, and naglalaro kami against my (former) team. Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam makalaro ulit dito.”
