UST students, staff evacuated after bomb threat letters found
MANILA – Students and staff were advised to leave the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Medicine Building in Manila on Friday afternoon after two alleged bomb threat letters were found inside female restrooms.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said the letters were discovered at around 4:30 p.m. on the building’s second and fourth floors.
According to the police report, a housekeeping staff member was informed by a female student from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences about a letter found on top of a toilet tank on the fourth floor.
The letter claimed that a bomb had been planted on the school premises and warned of possible additional threats over the weekend, when fewer people would be on campus. It specifically mentioned the Medicine Building’s main area and St. Raymund.
The staff member checked the other restrooms and found another letter inside the faculty restroom on the second floor.
The second letter also warned of possible bomb incidents over the weekend, ending with the message, “SAVE YOURSELVES! ADMINS WON’T SAVE US!”
The College of Rehabilitation Sciences secretary then instructed security personnel to order an evacuation of the building.
The Manila Police District Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit was alerted and deployed to the area to assess the situation.
The Medicine Building remained closed and secured, pending further assessment.
Authorities are still investigating the incident.
