From Anne’s ‘bulol’ moments to Ryan’s ‘waley’ jokes: “It’s Showtime” hosts react to their ‘Disisyete’ anniversary awaaards!
Seventeen years of making us laugh and giving us hope and good vibes is definitely worth celebrating. And to wrap up their week-long ‘Disisyete’ anniversary special, the “It’s Showtime” family gathered for the second “Showtime Awaaard” last Saturday, October 24, where they revisited their funniest and most iconic playtime moments.
ABS-CBN Studios caught up with the awardees to get their reactions to their latest “achievements.”
Anne Curtis took home the “Ha? Hakdog” Award for her hosting bloopers, from mispronounced words to thoughts that get lost in translation. Anne found the recognition especially funny because, TBH, even she still laughs at her own ‘bulol’ moments. Even if some of her spiels are too complicated to deliver, she still loves every minute of hosting “It’s Showtime.” But if Anne had to choose another host who deserves the accolade, she’d give it to her fellow ‘bulol’ Ryan Bang.
Meanwhile, Vhong Navarro said he didn’t expect to receive the “Pero ‘Nay Aminin Mo Puwedeng Special Jury Citation ‘To” Award for his unforgettable “love is blind” quote. “Pero tama din naman na mapansin n’yo,” he joked. As for why he deserves the plaque, Vhong had a very convincing argument, delivered with all seriousness, “Ako ‘yung katangi-tangi. Walang ibang pwedeng pagbigyan.” But if he had to pass the honor to another host, he’d choose Kim Chiu, who also loves sharing her little nuggets of wisdom about life.
Jhong Hilario had twice the reason to celebrate after taking home two titles, “Best Actor In An Eme-Eme Showtime Awaaard Consideration Role” and “Words of Wisdom.” But don’t expect Jhong to get all sentimental about his double win. He jokingly credited his success to being sincere in everything he does, unlike certain people. “‘Yung iba kasi hindi, eh,” he teased. And to his fellow hosts who didn’t take home as many awards, all he had to say was, “Galingan n’yo naman sa susunod.”
From his committed sea lion impersonation to his ‘waley’ jokes, Ryan’s effort certainly didn’t go unnoticed. The ‘oppa’ bagged the “Karir Na Karir” and “Natutulog Ba Ang Joke” awards, and he made sure to give credit where it’s due. He thanked the Madlang People for helping him think of jokes, and said Brent Manalo also feeds him punchlines, so he thinks Brent deserves the “Natutulog Ba Ang Joke” Award, too.
Ryan always gives his hundred percent to “It’s Showtime,” although he still gets nervous as the show’s resident joker and “escort.” But he takes it all seriously, and that, he believes, is the reason he deserves the “Karir Na Karir” Award.
Ogie Alcasid has fallen on the “It’s Showtime” stage so many times that he has already lost count, which explains why he received the “Fallen Star” Award. The Chief of OPM even poked fun at himself, saying, “‘Yung pagkakahulog ko, dahil lang sa pagiging matanda.” Ogie believes he wasn’t the only deserving nominee, though. He thinks he should’ve shared the recognition with the cameraman who was also nominated in the same category, considering the latter’s equally hilarious falling incidents on the show.
While most of the recognition made us laugh, the special tribute to Amy Perez tugged at our heartstrings. The veteran host got emotional upon receiving the “It’s Showtime It’s About Time Lifetime Sa Noontime” Award, honoring her remarkable contributions to noontime television through the years. She expressed her gratitude to the entire “It’s Showtime” family, including the hardworking staff and her fellow hosts, for making her feel so loved and appreciated.
Who needs a sound effects machine when you have Jugs Jugueta? He bagged the “Best Live Sound Effects” Award. And his message after winning was, “Pasensya na po sa mga naiirita sa boses ko.”
As “It’s Showtime” enters its 18th year, we’re pretty sure there will be plenty of new memories and laugh-out-loud moments waiting to happen. So, see you again next year at the next “Showtime Awaaard,” Madlang People!
