Chloe San Jose pens message to Carlos Yulo after world championships: ‘We’re not at the finish line yet’
Chloe San Jose has a message for her fiancé, Carlos Yulo, following his campaign at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, reminding him that one competition does not define the journey ahead.
In an Instagram post on October 26, Chloe reflected on the challenges and triumphs she had witnessed throughout Carlos’s gymnastics career, sharing how his resilience has also taught her to face setbacks with faith and determination.
The Filipino two-time Olympic gold medalist finished eighth in the men’s floor exercise final and seventh in the men’s vault final at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands in late October.
For Chloe, however, the results were only one part of a much bigger story.
“One of the things I’ve learned ever since being physically present in everything that you do, is that our story doesn’t end with one competition, one result, or one difficult season,” she began.
She recalled some of the difficult moments they had experienced together, including Carlos’s campaign at the Tokyo Olympics, where he came close to a podium finish in the vault final.
Chloe also looked back on the 2023 World Championships, when his score on vault threatened Carlos’s chances of qualifying for the Olympics, as well as his struggles during the Paris Olympics before ultimately winning two gold medals.
“But just a few days later, God lifted you up in ways we could have never imagined, making you our double gold Olympian. Nagoya Asian Games, falling on the vault qualification, but came back home and stronger with another double gold 🥇🥇,” she added.
For Chloe, these experiences reinforced her belief that difficult moments do not necessarily signal the end of a dream.
She maintained: “There were moments when we genuinely wondered what would happen next, when the dreams we had worked so hard for suddenly felt so far away. From the moments we thought were the end of the road to standing on the biggest podium in the world, God reminded us that His plans are always greater than what we can see.”
Beyond his achievements in gymnastics, Chloe said Carlos has taught her not to give up too quickly when things fail to go according to plan.
“Through all these years, you’ve also taught me something that goes far beyond sports: not to be so quick to feel defeated when things don’t go our way the first time.”
Chloe continued: “You always tell me, ‘hindi pa tapos ang laban.’ And you have always been right. Just because something didn’t happen the way we hoped, it doesn’t mean the story ends there. We just have to keep showing up, keep believing, and trust that God is still working behind the scenes.”
With the world championships marking Carlos’s final competition for the year, Chloe expressed her continued faith in what lies ahead for them.
“We’re not at the finish line yet. ‘Hindi pa tapos ang laban,’ as you always say. May the Lord God be with us 🤝🏻,” she ended.
Carlos scored 13.233 in the men’s floor exercise final to finish eighth. In the men’s vault final, he recorded an average score of 13.883, placing seventh.
Away from the competition, the couple also made time to enjoy their trip abroad, including a side trip to Paris with Carlos’ siblings, Jorielgel and Karl Eldrew Yulo.
In a separate Instagram post, Carlos thanked Chloe for the love and support she has extended to him and his siblings, highlighting the meaningful moments they shared outside gymnastics.
“Thank you for always showering us siblings with so much love and support. Thank you rin palagi sa mga napaka-sayang side quests like this one sa Paris 🤣. Hindi mo alam kung gaano mo na-heal yung inner child naming magkakapatid. These little moments mean so much more to us than you’ll ever know. Thank you for making life outside gymnastics just as beautiful and memorable. Mahal na mahal kita!” he wrote.
