President Duterte has yet to formally accept the resignation of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Deputy Administrator Arnell Ignacio, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

In a statement, Panelo confirmed that Ignacio has signified his intention to leave public service for personal reasons.

The Palace official said Malacañang was thankful for the showbiz personality’s contributions to the country.

“While the President has yet to formally accept Mr. Ignacio’s resignation, we recognize as well as thank him for his contributions to the Filipino people,” Panelo said Wednesday.

Ignacio was appointed by Duterte to OWWA last year. Before this, he was appointed as assistant vice-president for the community relations and services department of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

“Mr. Ignacio has proven his competence in public service in his current position, as well as during his tenure at the PAGCOR,” Panelo said of Ignacio.

“He has intimated his desire to pursue other endeavors. We wish him luck to a new path he will traverse,” he added.

It was reported that Ignacio tendered his resignation two weeks ago. He, however, refused to disclose the reason for leaving his post.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III has accepted his resignation and noted that Ignacio stated personal reasons for leaving the OWWA.

Ignacio was one of Duterte’s supporters from the entertainment industry during his campaign for the presidency. He was also one of those who were given government posts later on.
