MANILA — The new North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Northlink Segment that stretches from Valenzuela to Quezon City will be toll-free until the end of the year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Thursday after he attended the opening of the road network in the capital city.

The 2-kilometer NLEX-C5 Northlink Segment 8.2 Section 1A connects Quirino Highway in Quezon City to the NLEX Mindanao Toll Plaza in Valenzuela City.

“Kahit maiksi lang, dalawang kilometro, napakalaking bagay dahil ang dinadaan ngayon ay napakalayo,” the President said.

“Ang schedule nito hindi pa ngayon dapat mabubuksan pero pinilit na nating buksan para makapaghanda sa Undas,” he said.

The development is expected to cut travel time from Valenzuela to Quezon City and vice versa to 5 minutes from the current 40-minute point-to-point drive, the President said.

The government is also working on a nearby subway station to further improve the transportation network, he said.

The NLEX-C5 Northlink is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project with the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) serving as government grantor and NLEX Corporation as the private concessionaire.
