Fans react as Over October announces departure of guitarist Anton Rodriguez
It has been an emotional month for alternative pop band Over October and their fans as the group announced the departure of guitarist Anton Rodriguez, marking another change in the band’s lineup.
In a statement posted on their social media pages, Over October shared that they and Anton would be moving forward separately, saying their “paths are no longer aligned.”
“To our fans, friends, and community – the Octobears,
Moving forward, Anton will no longer be a part of Over October.
Sadly, our paths are no longer aligned. We wish him all the best as he focuses on other priorities.
The month of October has been a rollercoaster ride of emotions for us, and we are sure for you as well,” they wrote.
Despite the recent changes, Over October assured fans that they would continue their musical journey.
“We are grateful for the music and memories we’ve shared, and we appreciate your understanding and support as we enter this new chapter. With the departure of our drummer Janessa at the end of this month, Over October will continue with Josh Buizon, Josh Lua, and Joric Canlas,” they said.
As of this writing, Anton has yet to release his statement.
The announcement comes months after the band revealed that drummer Janessa Geronimo would also be leaving the group after 12 years together.
In her farewell message, Janessa reflected on the years she spent with the band, describing the experience as one of the biggest blessings of her life while acknowledging that her priorities and dreams had changed.
“To live this dream for the last 12 years has been one of the biggest blessings of my life. But dreams can change. Mine has,” she expressed.
“More than being bandmates, we have been witnesses to each other’s lives. We have pretty much spent our whole adult lives with each other. You have also been with us throughout everything, our dearest Octobears. You’ve seen us grow into who we are today.”
She admitted that leaving the band and its community was a difficult decision, but one she had made peace with.
“This is why this announcement is a painful one. Leaving the band, as well as this community, will be one of the hardest things I will ever do. Nevertheless, it’s a decision I am at peace with,” she explained.
Over October held its final major show with its original five-member lineup at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City on October 4.
Following the concert, the band expressed gratitude to the fans who helped them reach the milestone.
“12 YEARS with OVER OCTOBER. Maraming salamat, New Frontier Theater! Mahal namin kayong lahat, bears!! Grabe, we wouldn’t have been able to reach this milestone without your love and support. SALAMAT 🥹💙🌀,” they said.
Following the latest announcement, fans took to the comments section to express their sadness over the lineup changes while assuring the band and its departing members of their continued support.
“Ang sakit sakit na, oVo. 🥹😭 pero I will still continue to support!!! I pray for all the best, Atty. Anton and Janae!!! 🥹😭🧡,”a fan said
“It’s not yet over in October, right? 🥹”
“Heartbreak over heartbreak 😭😭😭”
Despite the bittersweet news, other fans encouraged the band to keep moving forward and continue making music: “Still a fan! Keep making music, Over October!”
