Second Bib Gourmand awards of Palm Grill, Cabel a win for Mindanao cuisine
Chef Miggy Cabel Moreno with his second set of Bib Gourmand awards for Palm Grill and Cabel. Karen Flores Layno, ABS-CBN NewsChef Miggy Cabel Moreno’s two restaurants, Palm Grill and Cabel, retained their Bib Gourmand status in the prestigious Michelin Guide.
He has long advocated for regional Filipino cuisine through these two concepts, and getting another set of accolades from a global authority on gastronomy is a significant win not just for him and his team, but also for Mindanao.
“It’s not just for us, it’s for the Mindanaoans. It’s for the Tausug people, the Zamboanguenos that I represent,” he declared. “It’s for regional Filipino cuisine to be finally given a global voice, and I’m happy to be able to do that.”
“I just couldn’t help it,” Moreno added, as he held on to his new pair of Bib Gourmand awards. “I’m just so grateful and happy for everything that has happened so far.”
Just a few days before the second Michelin Guide awarding ceremony in the Philippines, Moreno shared that the Bib Gourmand recognition of Palm Grill and Cabel has opened new doors for suppliers and local communities in his hometown.
It has also given him more platforms to promote Mindanao cuisine, from high-end hotels to convenience stores across the country.
And as they celebrate their second consecutive wins, Moreno said the work continues.
“As long as the Michelin Guide has not landed in Mindanao, I am here to make sure that the representation is heard, seen, tasted, and recognized,” he said.
