Passenger traffic at Calapan Port increases as Undas travelers return to Batangas, Manila
(UPDATED) Passenger traffic began increasing at Calapan Port in Oriental Mindoro on Monday as travelers headed back to Batangas and Manila after spending the Undas holidays in their home provinces.
Calapan Port Manager Joselito Sinocruz said the increase in passenger arrivals and departures became noticeable Tuesday morning, although the passenger terminal building was not yet overcrowded.
According to the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) in Mindoro, around 4,100 passengers had arrived at and departed from Calapan Port as of 2 p.m.
Passenger volume is expected to rise further through Wednesday. Port authorities urged travelers to register through the Online Reservation and Assistance System (ORAS) to secure ferry tickets.
Calapan Port assured the public that sufficient vessels were available to accommodate passengers.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recorded 46,011 outbound passengers and 37,813 inbound passengers across ports nationwide from 6 a.m. to noon as holiday travelers made their way back.
To ensure passenger safety, the PCG has deployed 6,484 frontline personnel across its 17 districts nationwide to conduct strict inspections of all vessels.
The PCG has also placed all its districts, stations and substations on heightened alert from October 29 to November 3 in anticipation of increased passenger traffic during Undas 2026.
