Carmelle Gears Up for an OPM Milestone on the Global Stage with the Eurovision Asia 2026

The Philippines is ready to make its mark on the international music scene as Carmelle takes on the challenge of representing the country at the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026 with “Sobra-Sobra.”

Set to happen on November 14 in Bangkok, Thailand, Eurovision Asia brings together musical talents from across the region, allowing participating countries to showcase their music, culture, and artistry on an international platform. For the Philippines, the competition marks an exciting opportunity to introduce Filipino music to a wider audience, with Carmelle leading the country’s campaign.

Her journey to the competition began at the Philippine Selection Night last August 30, 2026 at the New Frontier Theater, where she emerged as the country’s official representative after competing against nine other acts. The selection process combined professional jury scores with public votes from both local and international audiences, making her victory a significant milestone in her musical career.

Now, she is preparing to bring “Sobra-Sobra” to the Eurovision Asia stage, a song that is as much a celebration of Filipino musical identity as it is an anthem of confidence and self-worth. Written by acclaimed songwriters Nica del Rosario and Mat Olavides, “Sobra-Sobra” combines contemporary pop, powerful vocals, and rapid-fire rap with traditional Filipino instruments, including the kulintang and kubing. It also incorporates Latin influences, creating a dynamic arrangement that brings together different musical traditions while maintaining a distinctly Filipino character.

Beyond its infectious sound, the song carries a message of empowerment, encouraging women to embrace their individuality, recognize their worth, and never feel the need to make themselves smaller to meet other people’s expectations. It is a message that extends beyond cultural and language barriers, making the song relatable to audiences from different backgrounds.

For Carmelle, however, representing the Philippines is about more than delivering a memorable performance. During her send-off event, she told the audience about the kind of artist she hopes audiences will see when she steps onto the global stage.

She wants people to recognize the dedication behind every performance, emphasizing that her confidence comes from the work she puts in before stepping into the spotlight. “Every time na tatapak ako sa stage, talagang pinaghirapan at pinaghandaan ko po,” she shared.

Carmelle explained that she makes sure to rehearse thoroughly and take the guidance of the people working behind the scenes. With the competition drawing closer, she remains grateful for the support of her mentors and creative team, who continue to guide her, offer corrections, and help her improve. Their trust and encouragement allow her to approach every performance with confidence, knowing that she has prepared for the moment.

Her definition of success at Eurovision Asia also goes beyond the final results. Asked what would make her journey meaningful regardless of the competition’s outcome, Carmelle pointed to the experiences, lessons, and relationships she has gained along the way. Meeting fellow artists, learning from their experiences, and sharing her own have all become important parts of the journey.

She also considers the unwavering support of her mentors an added source of assurance as she takes on this new challenge. “Ngayon pa lang, para po sa akin, panalo na po kaming lahat,” she said, referring to Team Philippines and her fellow finalists. For her, being part of the first-ever Eurovision Song Contest Asia, with the Philippines among the participating countries, is already a victory in itself. Taking home the competition’s top honor would be a priceless bonus.

Carmelle’s determination is backed by years of experience in the music industry. The Bicolana singer first gained recognition as a finalist on The Voice Kids Philippines before becoming the grand champion of “Tawag ng Tanghalan: The School Showdown.” She also demonstrated her vocal and performance abilities on the international stage, earning seven gold medals at the 2019 World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA).

With ABS-CBN Music supporting the Philippine entry, her participation brings together a team of songwriters, mentors, and creatives working toward a shared goal: showcasing Filipino talent to the rest of Asia.

As the November 14 competition approaches, Carmelle is focused on making the most of the opportunity and delivering a performance that reflects the hard work behind her Eurovision journey. With “Sobra-Sobra,” she carries a message of confidence, empowerment, and Filipino pride— one that she hopes will reach listeners regardless of where they come from or what language they speak. When she finally steps onto the stage in Bangkok, Carmelle will be carrying more than the country’s hopes for a win. She will be bringing the sound of Filipino music, the support of the people who helped her get there, and the confidence of an artist who knows just how much work it took to make this moment happen.
