PVL: Davison says PLDT ‘plays to its potential’ when facing Cool Smashers
MANILA — PLDT is proving that it is Creamline’s kryptonite, winning seven of its last eight matches against the 11-time champions.
For Savi Davison, the dynastic Cool Smashers bring out the best in the High Speed Hitters.
PLDT defeated the league’s winningest squad once more, 25-19, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, handing Creamline its first loss of the Siklab series in the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference on Thursday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
“I feel like we play to our potential when we play Creamline. I don’t want to say they provoke something of us. I just feel like we can always expect them to play their best,” said the former MVP, who delivered 22 points while also contributing 19 excellent receptions and eight excellent digs.
Davison said the High Speed Hitters’ competitive approach against Creamline stems from their respect for the league’s most successful franchise, although she stressed that they bring the same mentality against every opponent.
“So, out of respect, we need to play our best. I mean, with any other team, you have to play your best in order to respect that team. But knowing Creamline, knowing their history, their dynasty, I feel like there’s kind of no pressure on us when we play them. Because if they beat us, they deserve it. If we beat them, we deserve it,” the Fil-Canadian spiker said.
Davison also acknowledged the threat posed by Creamline, saying they had to prepare for the possibility of dropping a set against the formidable Cool Smashers.
After surrendering the second frame in a tightly contested battle, PLDT regrouped and bounced back in the next two sets to secure its third consecutive victory.
“We have to be aware that we might drop a set to Creamline because they’re a very strong team. You know, how can we stay close in score? How can we, you know, bawi agad? Like I said, always going up against Creamline is going to be a tough match,” Davison said.
