In Filipino swardspeak, meme can also mean “mother” and is often used as a nickname for Vice Ganda or Meme Vice. This is pronounced as meh-meh. 

ETYMOLOGY: Coined by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book, “The Selfish Gene.” The word derives from the Greek mimēma, meaning “something imitated.” Today, it commonly refers to humorous or satirical internet content, such as captioned images, GIFs, and short videos, that spreads widely online.
