18-year-old student implicated in school shooting threat in Batangas
An 18-year-old student has been linked to a threat of a school attack in Batangas. Handout/Lipa City Police StationLIPA CITY, Batangas – Investigators have traced a threat of an attack at a school in Lipa City, Batangas, posted on social media, to an 18-year-old student.
Lipa City Police Chief PLtCol. Aleli Buaquen said police, in coordination with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 4A and the Batangas Provincial Cybercrime Response Team, seized the student’s cellphone under a Warrant to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD).
The student, a resident of Barangay Kayumanggi, was identified as the source of an online threat warning of a possible mass shooting at a college in Lipa City in September.
Buaquen said the student allegedly made the threat because he did not want to take an examination.
“Tuwing exam kasi inuulan kami ng ganiyang mga threats kaya sinasampolan namin yan,” Buaquen said.
“Dapat talaga hindi itolerante ang mga iyan, mga ayaw magsipagpasok,” she added.
The student was not arrested, but Buaquen said police would file charges related to threats, alarm and scandal in connection with the alleged cybercrime.
