UAAP: Red-hot Acido leads UST past FEU to end three-game skid

UAAP Media.MANILA — Amiel Acido caught fire as University of Santo Tomas outlasted Far Eastern University, 86-85, to snap a three-game skid in UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

Acido poured in 23 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc as the Growling Tigers finally broke through in the second round to list their fifth win in 11 games.

Landyn Jumawan followed with 18 points, 16 of which came from long range, while Mark Llemit added 16 points and seven rebounds for UST, which moved into a tie with Ateneo de Manila University for fifth place in the standings.

FEU had plenty of opportunities to steal the win, with Jorick Bautista erupting for 27 points on 5-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc, but it was not enough as the Tamaraws absorbed their fifth loss in 11 games.

Kirby Mongcopa and Cabs Cabonilas scored 14 points apiece, while Mo Konateh and Elias Gish added nine points each for FEU, which remained tied with De La Salle University for third place in the standings.
