‘Yellow rainfall’ warning up in 3 areas as ‘Ester’ triggers monsoon rains—Pagasa
A yellow rainfall warning is up over Zambales, Bataan, and Pampanga on Friday morning because of monsoon rains enhanced by tropical depression “Ester,” the state-run weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Admnistration (Pagasa) said this meant that flooding was possible in low-lying areas.
As of 8 a.m., the center of Ester was 325 kilometers (km) north-northwest of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
It is moving in the northeast direction at 13 kph and is expected to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday morning.
Light to moderate with occasional heavy rains or thunderstorms are affecting Tarlac and Nueva Ecija, which may persist within three hours.
Heavy rains with lightning and strong winds will likely occur over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Laguna, and Batangas within the next three hours.
The southwest monsoon or “habagat” will also bring moderate to occasional heavy rains over Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, and Tarlac which could lead to possible flooding or landslides.
It will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, rest of Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon for the day.
Meanwhile, the Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
Calabarzon is Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
Mimaropa is Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan. GLEE JALEA
