Lav Diaz’s “Ang Panahon Ng Halimaw” has won the Best Picture prize at the Bildrausch Film Festival.

This was announced on the movie’s official Facebook page Sunday.

The Bildrausch Filmfest Basel is held annually in Basel, Switzerland.

It was launched in 2011 by the association Le Bon Film under the leadership of Nicole Reinhard and Beat Schneider of Stadtkino Basel.

“Ang Panahon ng Halimaw,” billed as “Season Of The Devil” in the festival, takes place in 1970s Philippines during Martial Law.

Clocking in at some four hours, the monochrome epic tells the tale of the poet Hugo’s (played by Piolo Pascual) search for his missing wife Lorena (played by Shaina Magdayao).

Prior, “Halimaw” won best film at the Gems section of the 58th Festival Internacional de Cine Cartagena de Indias.

It also competed for the Golden Bear in the main competition section of the 68th Berlin International Film Festival.
