Policeman arrested for extortion in Cavite

A POLICE officer was arrested for extortion on Saturday night in Cavite, an intelligence unit of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Sunday.

Sr. Supt. Romeo Caramat, chief of the PNP-Counter-Intelligence Task Force chief, said Police Officer (PO) 2 Robin Robiso, assigned to the drug enforcement unit of Candelaria Municipal Police Station in Quezon province, was arrested based on a complaint by an unidentified civilian who alleged that the lawman demanded P25,000 in exchange for the non-filing of criminal charges against him.

Robiso was arrested in his house at Purok 2, Barangay Pag-asa in Dasmariñas at about 7:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The civilian also said that Robiso was claiming that he recovered his firearm, which was stolen seven months ago.

“[Robiso] accused the complainant of being an accomplice for stealing and selling said firearms based on the Facebook conversation involving the seller of said firearm and the complainant,” Caramat said in his report.

Robiso faces criminal and administrative charges. DEMPSEY REYES
