CHR approves PNP plan to stop media presentation of crime suspects
The Commission of Human Rights (CHR) approved on Wednesday the plan of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to stop presentingcrime suspects to the media.
“This is in consonance with human rights standards particularly on due process and presumption of innocence,” CHR spokesperson Jacqueline De Guia said in a statement.
“Our social media account praised this latest development by posting an ‘OK’ card, a stamp of approval for positive policies and programs implemented by the government,” she added.
Police chief Dir. Gen. Oscar D. Albayalde earlier said the plan was part of the agency’s effort to observe due process for the accused.
“We just want to implement the policy that no suspects, even common criminals, will be paraded before the media, because we already have a long-standing policy about this,” Albayalde said during a press briefing on Monday. /ee
