Emilian Student-leaders Win SK Posts

By Mhark Gaufo

Three (3) Emilio Aguinaldo College students were declared victors in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections last May 15.

Despite demanding academic loads, conflicting college hours and hectic social lives, three of our Emilians persevered in their efforts to campaign and communicate their advocacy to their barangays. This tenacity paid off as Jiggs Angelika D. Paras of Barangay Singkamas, Makati City, and Raymund Cuenca Pascua from Pariancillo Villa, Valenzuela City won as the SK Chairperson while Danica Jean Garcia of Barangay Kasilawan, Makati City was declared as one of the seven SK Kagawads.

When asked about their thoughts on winning the positions, Central Student Council Board (CSCB) President for academic year 2017-2018, and BS Radiologic Technology student Jiggs Angelika Paras expressed that serving the people means stepping outside the four corners of the institution. “It is indeed a continual service beyond school borders and I want to share the four things I have learned during my term as the EAC-CSCB President: commitment, selflessness, camaraderie and bravery.”

Meanwhile, EAC Generals point guard and BS Customs Administration student Raymund Pascua said that engaging these problems in an orthodox way is one effective way to help the community. “Makakatulong ako sa barangay namin sa pagbibigay ng sapat na education at paglaban sa pinagbabawal na gamot.”

Similarly, Danica Jean Garcia of School of Criminology shared her passion in serving the public to the furtherance of an honest cause for the benefit of the community. “It’s a big responsibility so una kong inisip is gusto ko to so hindi ko pwedeng atrasan or iwanan…Basta nag stick lang ako sa goal ko na gusto ko talaga mag public service at hinahanap hanap kasi talaga ng katawan ko.”

The nation held the Barangay and SK election on May 14, 2018 and announced the winners a day after on May 15, 2018.
