12 drug tipsters get P7.4M reward

FOR reporting suspected illegal drug activities in their community, 12 individuals were given a total of P7.4 million in cash from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Tuesday.

“Community vigilance is vital in the hope of winning the war against illegal drugs. Local folks need to be PDEA’s eyes and ears in barangay (villages) to see and hear if there is an illegal drug activity happening around their neighborhood,” said PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino who personally handed the cash rewards to the informants who were identified only by their codenames such as: Ador, Sakuragi, Jacpat, Kidlat, 24, Bungo, Mike, Kulas, Sandro, Ex-Boy, Abo, and Agila. They also wore masks during the ceremony to hide their identities.

Ador and Sakuragi received the biggest reward of P2 million.

Ador’s information led to the confiscation of 44,022.80 grams of “shabu” and the arrest of four drug suspects in Quezon City last Nov. 15, 2016.

Sakuragi tipped off PDEA agents that led to the confiscation of 529 kilograms of shabu and arrest of two drug suspects in San Juan City on Dec. 23, 2016.

Mike was rewarded with P1.7 million; Jacpat, P1.2 million; 24 with P179,442.53; Bungo, P105,159.10; Agila, P84,583.97; Kulas, P72,000; Kidlat, P45,905.08; Ex-boy, P28,504.05; Abo, P22,767.57; and Sandro, P22,199.60.

Their information led to the arrest of 25 drug personalities, dismantling of clandestine shabu laboratories and seizure of over P4 billion worth of shabu, ephedrine, and marijuana, Aquino said.

The rewarding of informants is part of the PDEA Operation: Private Eye, a reward and incentive scheme that aims to encourage private citizens to report suspected illegal drug activities.

This is the second time this year the PDEA rewarded informants with their tips to the agency. The first one was on March 27.
