Palace says no problem if priests get gun permits

Priests who meet legal requirements may be granted permission to own and carry guns for their protection, Malacañang said on Tuesday.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque made the remarks amid opposition aired by some Church leaders to suggestions to arm priests for self-defense.

“We have requirements and guidelines,” Roque said.

“If any priest will qualify, then I’m sure the Philippine National Police will issue the corresponding gun license,” he said. —Julie M. Aurelio
