PNP exec: Trillanes still has security personnel

Senator Antonio Trillanes still has protective security personnel even without escorts from the Philippine National Police (PNP), a police official explained Saturday.

Trillanes currently has a total of six security escorts, Sr. Supt. Benigno Durana, spokesperson of the PNP, told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

Two of his escorts are from a Special Detail Unit of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, two from the Philippine Navy, and two others from the Senate Security Bureau, Durana said.

The senator earlier claimed that his police security personnel had been recalled to their mother unit in Camp Crame in June and the PNP did not issue an explanation regarding it.

Durana, however, explained that the non-renewal of the letter orders from the police is “in compliance with the implementation of ‘Alunan Doctrine,’” which he said “provides that government officials can only have two security protective personnel.”

Trillanes also said the reason behind PNP’s move was not explained to him.

“We will check whether this simple protocol has been observed by those concerned,” Durana said, citing Trillanes should have been informed by the PNP of the non-renewal of its letter orders. /jpv
