18 hurt as jeepney turns upside down in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Eighteen passengers of a jeepney were hurt when the vehicle turned turtle as it rolled downhill at Piat town in Cagayan province on Saturday afternoon.

One of the passengers was seriously injured and was brought to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center while the rest, including seven children, have been declared out of danger at the Piat Hospital, according to PO1 Arnel Basiwang, Piat police investigator.

Kennedy Ramos, the driver, said his vehicle tipped over when he swerved to avoid crashing into a car in front of him that suddenly stopped. Some of his passengers were pinned down. Other passengers were riding on the roof of the jeep and were thrown off.

Ramos has been placed under police custody while a complaint for serious physical injury and multiple physical injuries due to reckless imprudence is being readied against him. /je
