5 drug suspects killed within 24 hours

Five men were killed within 24 hours by Quezon City policemen in alleged separate encounters over the weekend.

Only one of the suspects has been identified at press time. All of them, however, reportedly yielded illegal drugs.

A report to Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr., Quezon City police director, said that Talipapa station policemen rushed to Barangay Unang Sigaw at 1:22 a.m. on Sunday based on a tip about an armed man spotted in the area.

The man, however, reportedly fired at them, leading to a shootout in which he was killed. Seized from him was a loaded .45-caliber handgun and 13 sachets of suspected “shabu” (crystal meth).

Separate shootouts

Less than 24 hours earlier, four men who were reportedly robbery and drug suspects were also killed in alleged shootouts at Barangays Pinyahan and Gulod.

At 2:10 a.m. on Saturday, Kamuning and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group policemen responding to a call about a shooting incident on NIA Road saw two armed men taking a victim’s motorcycle.

Police said the suspects, who were armed with 9 mm and .22-caliber guns, fired shots at them, leading to their death.

Recovered from them were another handgun and 40 sachets of suspected shabu.

At least 40 minutes later, two more drug suspects were killed by Novaliches policemen following a drug bust in a house on San Ignacio Street.

One of the slain men was identified through his driver’s license as Angelito Golimlim, 45 years old and a Novaliches resident.

The pair yielded two guns and 12 sachets of shabu.
