2 Manila police officers arrested for extortion

TWO police officers of the Manila Police District (MPD) were arrested on Thursday midnight for alleged extortion.

A spot report from Criminal Investigation Task Force (CITF) said PO1 Erdie Bautista and PO1 MJ Cerilla were arrested in an entrapment operation at the MPD’s District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) office at 12:30 a.m.

Other policemen involved in the alleged extortion were PO3 Michael Chavez, PO3 Dindo Encina, PO1 Arcadio Orbis, and  PO1 Martinico Mario. They are currently at large.

In a radio interview, Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) regional director, said that DSOU Chief Insp. Joey de Ocampo was also relieved from his position.

According to a complaint by one of the alleged victim’s wife, her husband and seven others were arrested in Sta. Mesa on July 18 for alleged human trafficking.

The police officers then demanded P100,000 in exchange for their freedom.

The complainant bargained to lower the demand and agreed at P50,000.

The CITF operatives “rescued” the arrest individuals and found out that there was no official blotter entry and spot report submitted to Tactical Operations Center.

The erring police officers are currently at the CITF headquarters for documentation and filing of appropriate charges. ROY NARRA, KIM MALAIT
