Occidental Mindoro police officer linked to illegal drugs killed in buy-bust
A POLICE officer allegedly involved in illegal drug trade was killed in an armed encounter in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro on Saturday afternoon, an official said.
Senior Insp. Ferdinand Bea of Paluan identified the suspect as PO3 Marco Hashim Alegre, 39, a resident of Barangay Marikit.
During the buy-bust by the Counterintelligence Task Force (CITF) at 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, the poseur buyer was able to buy “shabu” worth of P1,000 from the suspect who, sensing his impending arrest, immediately drew his firearm and fired at the operatives.
Shooting back, the lawmen fatally wounded Alegre who was brought to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by an attending physician.
According to Bea, “ayon sa validation na ginawa ng oversight committee lumalabas na kung saan siya ma-assign ay pagbebenta ng shabu ang gawa niya.”
The suspect was listed as a high-value target (HVT) of Occidental Mindoro, he added.
