Duterte allies move to oust Alvarez, Arroyo next Speaker, says House leader

ALLIES of President Rodrigo Duterte at the House of Representatives are moving to oust Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez to install former president and Rep. Gloria Arroyo of Pampanga in his place, a ranking House leader said on Monday.

The source, who declined to be named ahead of the All-Majority bloc caucus this morning, revealed that political parties from the Super Majority bloc held separate meetings to discuss the planned ouster of Alvarez.

“Everybody, I mean all political parties, are holding separate meetings this morning. Before, these talks of ousting Alvarez are just that: talks. Now, this is the most tangible move. This is not just talk. It is moving,” an administration lawmaker said.

“As far as I know, [Sen.] Cynthia Villar has been calling her party-mates in Nacionalista party [on this move to oust the Speaker], while the NPC (National People’s Coalition) also held a meeting for this [oust Alvarez]move,” the same source added.

Likewise, the same source also disclosed that the coup de’ etat against Alvarez has the support of  President Rodrigo Duterte’s trusted and feisty daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who had a run-in with Alvarez.

“Wala namang ibang gagawa ‘nun kung hindi siya (Nobody would make such a bold move except her),” the source added.

A second source, who is also highly involved in congressional matters in his capacity as legal counsel, claimed that the enough numbers to oust Alvarez has been gathered as early as 6 a.m. today.

“Watch it happen by 10 a.m. Alvarez will be gone. Vote of no confidence,” the second source said.
