‘Josie’ exits PH, approaching LPA to be named ‘Karding’—Pagasa

TROPICAL depression “Josie” has left Philippine territory on Monday morning, but an approaching low pressure area may intensify into a tropical depression to be known locally as “Karding”, the state-run weather bureau said.

As of 8 a.m., Josie was 585 kilometers (km) north-northeast of Basco, Batanes, maintaining winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 65 kph as it moved north at 20 kph.

No tropical cyclone warning signals were raised but the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will continue to bring scattered to widespread rains over Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Mindoro, Palawan, and Western Visayas and occasional rains over Metro Manila, and the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

The “orange” rainfall warning remains raised in Bataan and Southern Zambales, which means heavy to intense rains will occur along with threatening floods.

The “yellow” alert is up in Pampanga, Cavite and Batangas, which means moderate to heavy rains will occur and flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

Residents in these areas, especially those living in low-lying and mountainous areas, were advised to take actions against possible flooding and landslides.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area (LPA) was seen 1,495 km east of southern Luzon, still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

It may likely develop into a tropical depression when it enters the country on Monday.

Based on its forecast track, the LPA was not expected to hit land but would trigger monsoon rains over Luzon and Visayas, Pagasa said. GLEE JALEA
